My Love Affair With Burlap

I am obsessed with burlap. If I can find it for $5 at a flea market I snag it. Anything more than that is too rich for my blood. Unless it has an interesting and unique advertisement then and only then will I spend a little more.

I wanted to make some pillows for the living room and one burlap sack was enough to make two.

I just love the color and advertisements on the burlap itself. Don't you? It can really bring in a rustic ambiance to your home.

Burlap can look really masculine so I made a couple of fabric flowers with some vintage buttons to add a little femininity to this pillow.

Dishtowel Pillows

Last year I made a couple of halloween pillows made from dishtowels that I purchased from Ross. I just added some green pom pom trim and voila! I now have the look of expensive pillows but in reality it only cost me $10 for all the materials.

So before you step inside a JOANN's or any other fabric store make sure you check out what Ross, Marshalls, or TJ Maxx has to offer on dishtowels or place mats.

A Pillow For The Newly Married Couple

My husband and I were invited to a wedding and I thought I should make something really special for the happy couple. So I had bought these chevron place mats at TJ Maxx and realized it would make a perfect pillow.

The best thing about using place mats is that you don't have to hem the edges so all you need to do is sew around it leaving an opening for pillow stuffing and finish sewing it shut. If you're not a sewer then a glue gun can also handle the task.

I had stenciled one side of the pillow with the word "TONIGHT" and the other side with "NOT TONIGHT."

However, if I would have made one for myself to go onto my bed then one side would say "TONIGHT" and the other side of the pillow would say "TOMORROW" and it will remain on "TOMORROW". You know what I'm sayin?! :)

On a side note the burlap flower with a vintage button is also a DIY project and that will be a later post.
